Other Font Modifiers
Tutorial by
Mr. Baldy

There are a bunch of 'other' tags that have to do with changing some text things. Most do the same thing as another tag, but I'll post them here if you want to use these instead. I don't really recommend it though. There are, however, a few tags I use a lot which are at the lot, such as the BLOCKQUOTE, and others.

Here's the BLOCKQUOTE tag I was talking about. It makes an indent and keeps the indent even if you have to go to the next line. Also, it makes a margin on the right, which looks good.

<blockquote></blockquote>

And it does this...I like it.

Here's some normal text
This is some blockquoted text blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

That was some blockquoted text.

Notice how it makes paragraph breaks for you. I tend to put the P tag after it anyway.

Here is a pointless variation of the I tag (italics), that some people used, and I thought I was cool when I first started HTML and knew it, but it seriously sucks. I do NOT recommend using this:

<address></address>

With this effect:

This is some addressed text

The next can come in handy if you are writing in Hebrew or something. It changes the direction of the text from left to right, to right to left.

<bdo dir="rtl"></bdo>

I don't think I myself will ever use this, but here it is for you:

This is some text from right to left

It doesn't seem to do anything, but it's in the language, so it's here anyway.

Jeez...the next tag just makes the font one size larger. This is mainly used by HTML generators suchs as Frontpage, which is why I don't like it:

<big></big>

It's pointless I tell you...pointless...

Here is some big text.

Here's another variation of the I tag...pointless...pointless...

<cite></cite>

And the usual example:

Cited text

BTW. There will be no homework on this section. I couldn't even do it, but it's nice to know what some of the other things are.

Here's a tag that just changes the font to Courier...pointless...

<code></code>

I don't even know if I want to post what it looks like:

This is some computer code text

ANOTHER variation of the I tag...BORING

<dfn></dfn>

NO EXAMPLE FOR YOU...I think you get my point...

EVEN ANOTHER variation of the I tag...the emphasis tag

<em></em>

Keyboard text...another Courier font tag...

<kbd></kbd>

...hmmm...I don't really like this section...

Here's a tag that can be useful if used well. I think it is a waste of time, but here it is...the preformatted text tag (PRE)...

<pre></pre>

You can put in spaces and stuff and it will actually type them...like this:

                         W E L C O M E
                         T O T H I S
			            H T M L
			           G U I D E

The next is something...I don't like it...too hard to read...but some people might...

<strike></strike>

Strikethrough....it can be used well...as in this quote from myself...

Clinton wants your sister vote!

Another Courier thing...here's the tag...screw it...

<samp></samp>

Here's another HTML Generator thing, which makes the font one size smaller than normal...

Here is some small text.

The first, and I think, the only variation of the B tag...

<strong></strong>

Here's a little hnady dandy tag...well...a set of them, which can be used best for exponents and chemistry things...

Here it is...in an example...SUPerscript and SUBscript...

The H2SO4 is some nasty acid when in the concentration of 3.14 X 105

Don't e-mail with something about that. I just came up with that in a minute. I don't care if it makes sense.

Another courier thing...teletype:

<tt></tt>

An finally...the VAR tag....which emphasizes a variable...usually by italicizing it...

<var></var>

Finally, enough of this crap, but I had to throw some stuff at you. That is the hardest stuff, I think, in the HTML language. But don't worry. You may neer need any of it, except a few...the BLOCKQUOTE tag, SUP and SUB tags, and maybe a few more...
